Karachi police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of Dr. Akash, who was shot dead during a robbery in the city’s Frere area. Police officials said two more suspects have been identified, and raids are underway to arrest them.

Senior police officers shared details of the investigation during a press conference. They said the case was solved within 36 hours of the incident after investigators carried out an extensive operation using modern surveillance techniques.

According to officials, Dr. Akash was targeted when he arrived at a bank. Investigators believe one of the suspects had conducted surveillance before the robbery and informed his accomplices about the victim’s arrival. The attackers then carried out the robbery, during which Dr. Akash was fatally shot.

Police said the suspects used a motorcycle and a car during the crime. Three attackers arrived on motorcycles, while another vehicle was also used to support the operation. Authorities confirmed that the three arrested suspects belong to the Hindu community.

Investigators collected footage from more than 100 CCTV cameras installed along different routes. The video evidence helped police trace the movements of the suspects before and after the incident. Based on the footage and other intelligence, police arrested the three accused from the Defence area of Karachi.

Officials also confirmed that a portion of the stolen money has been recovered during the investigation. Further efforts are continuing to recover the remaining amount and collect additional evidence.

Police said the investigation has established the identities of two other suspects who allegedly participated in the robbery. Search operations are continuing, and authorities expressed confidence that the remaining accused will be arrested soon.

The police described the case as an example of how surveillance technology is helping investigators solve serious crimes more quickly. Officials said CCTV cameras played a crucial role in identifying the suspects and reconstructing the sequence of events.

Speaking about the city’s overall security situation, police officials said surveillance systems have contributed to a reduction in street crime in several parts of Karachi. They stated that street crime has declined by 11.8 percent during the past six months.

Officials also highlighted progress under the Safe City Project, saying the first phase has been completed with approximately 1,150 surveillance cameras installed across Karachi. The second phase of the project is nearing completion and is expected to further strengthen crime prevention and law enforcement.

Police also shared broader crime statistics, saying 32 children under the age of 12 were murdered this year. Investigators have solved 22 of those cases, and the accused are currently in custody. Authorities further stated that the conviction rate in child sexual abuse cases has increased, reflecting improvements in investigations and prosecution.
