During a BAFTA “Life in Pictures” event in London on Monday, September 21, Cruise reflected on his four-decade Hollywood career and discussed how AI could affect filmmaking and the cinema experience in the coming years.

Host Edith Bowman asked the Mission: Impossible star about his views on AI and its potential impact on creative fields.

“There is nothing like human,” Cruise said, emphasizing the value of human creativity and the shared experience of watching films in theaters.

The actor pointed to this summer’s record-breaking US box office, which generated $4.76 billion between May 1 and Labor Day, as evidence that audiences continue to value the theatrical experience.

“People want that experience. They’re going to movie theaters,” Cruise said, adding, “I always believe in humanity.”

Addressing the future of AI in filmmaking, Cruise acknowledged that the technology is inevitable but encouraged creatives to continue pursuing their work.

“You know, it is coming and it’s going to happen,” Cruise said. “But people want to see real things.”

He concluded his remarks by urging creatives to “keep creating.”

Cruise’s comments came days after he appeared as a guest on Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce’s New Heights podcast. The actor also recently attended a Kansas City Chiefs game alongside Taylor Swift, where the two were seen speaking during the game. Cruise later discussed their conversation and praised Swift’s knowledge of football during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
