LAHORE: Transporters in Lahore have announced a 10 percent reduction in fares following the recent decrease in petroleum product prices, offering some relief to passengers and businesses facing high transportation costs.
The Pakistan Mini Mazda and Goods Transport Association Lahore announced the fare reduction after reviewing the impact of lower fuel prices on transportation expenses. The decision is expected to reduce the cost of moving goods and provide relief to commuters who rely on public transport for daily travel.
President of the Pakistan Mini Mazda and Goods Transport Association, Haji Sher Ali, welcomed the government’s decision to reduce petroleum product prices, describing it as a positive step for the transport sector.
He said that the decline in fuel prices would help lower the operating costs of transporters. In response, the association had decided to pass on part of the benefit to consumers by reducing transport fares by 10 percent.
“Following the reduction in petroleum product prices, Mazda and goods transport fares are being reduced by 10 percent,” Sher Ali said.
The fare cut is expected to have a wider impact on the transportation of goods, particularly for traders, retailers and businesses that depend heavily on road transport. Lower freight charges could also help reduce transportation-related costs across supply chains.
Public transport operators have also announced a 10 percent reduction in fares, which is likely to provide direct financial relief to passengers. Daily commuters, particularly those travelling long distances for work, education and other essential activities, are expected to benefit from the reduction.
Transport fares are closely linked to fuel prices because diesel and petrol account for a significant portion of the operating expenses of buses, Mazda vehicles, trucks and other commercial transport.
Transport sector representatives have also called for greater coordination between authorities and transport associations to ensure that fare reductions are implemented effectively and passed on to passengers and consumers.
The latest move comes as consumers continue to face pressure from rising living and transportation costs. A reduction in fares could help ease some of that burden, while lower freight charges may also support businesses by reducing the cost of transporting essential commodities and other goods.
