LAHORE: Pakistan Railways has taken another step towards improving passenger services with the inauguration of the upgraded Karakoram Express at the Lahore Railway Headquarters.

Pakistan Railways Chief Executive Officer Muhammad Hafeezullah formally inaugurated the upgraded train during a ceremony held at the railway headquarters. Lahore Divisional Superintendent Inamullah and other senior railway officers also attended the ceremony.

Following the inauguration, the Pakistan Railways CEO inspected different coaches of the Karakoram Express and reviewed the facilities made available for passengers. Railway officials briefed him about the improvements introduced as part of the train’s upgradation.

The inspection focused on the overall condition of the coaches and the facilities being provided to passengers during their journey. The CEO also reviewed the arrangements made by the department to improve the travelling experience and ensure better services for people using the train.

Speaking during the ceremony, Muhammad Hafeezullah said Pakistan Railways was working on the phased upgradation of several passenger trains across the country. He said the objective of the initiative was to improve the overall quality of rail travel and provide passengers with better facilities.

The CEO said providing safe, comfortable and quality travelling facilities to passengers remained one of the major priorities of Pakistan Railways. He stressed the importance of improving passenger services and maintaining better standards across the railway system.

He said the department was continuing efforts to upgrade passenger trains in phases so that improvements could be introduced systematically across the network. According to the CEO, the upgradation programme is aimed at providing passengers with an improved travelling experience while strengthening the quality of services offered by Pakistan Railways.

During the visit, senior railway officers also accompanied the CEO during his inspection of the coaches. They briefed him on the arrangements and improvements made to the Karakoram Express and other measures being taken to improve passenger facilitation.

The inauguration of the upgraded Karakoram Express comes as Pakistan Railways continues to focus on improving passenger services and upgrading its existing fleet. The department has been working on various initiatives aimed at enhancing the travelling experience and making train journeys more convenient and comfortable for passengers.

Railway officials said the improvement of passenger facilities was being pursued alongside the phased upgrading of other trains. The objective is to gradually bring better standards of service to more passengers travelling through the country’s railway network.

The Karakoram Express is among the passenger trains operating on Pakistan Railways’ network, connecting major cities and serving passengers travelling between different parts of the country. The latest upgrade is expected to provide passengers using the train with improved facilities compared with its previous configuration.

The railway administration has emphasized that passenger safety, comfort and service quality remain central to its efforts. Officials said further improvements would be introduced as part of the department’s continuing programme for upgrading passenger trains.

The ceremony concluded with the CEO’s inspection of the upgraded coaches and a review of the facilities available to passengers. Senior railway officials remained present during the inspection and briefed the CEO on the condition and arrangements of the train.
