Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, has claimed that the decision to launch an attack on Iran was made by the United States, not Israel.
Speaking to Israeli media, Danon said Washington had decided to carry out the attack on Iran, while Israel had supported the move. He stressed that the decision was not made by the Israeli government.
“Unfortunately, we know that the decision to attack Iran was America’s, not ours,” Danon said.
He added that Israel had backed the US initiative and believed it was the right decision. His remarks appeared to distance Israel from direct responsibility for the decision to launch the military operation against Iran, while reaffirming its support for Washington’s actions.
Danon also rejected claims by a US deputy ambassador that the Republican Party’s heavy losses in the midterm elections were linked to the Iran war.
Responding to the argument, the Israeli envoy said it was always easy to blame Israel for everything, but insisted that such accusations were misplaced.
His comments came amid debate over the political consequences of the Iran conflict in the United States and its potential impact on relations between Washington and Tel Aviv.
Danon’s remarks also followed criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s handling of the Iran issue. US Vice President JD Vance had reportedly said Netanyahu was wrong on almost everything concerning Iran.
