Dera Ismail Khan: Acting Vice Chancellor of Gomal University, Dr. Naimatullah Babar, has taken a significant administrative step by removing Dr. Muhammad Ijaz Khan , who is widely regarded as a close associate of former Vice Chancellor Prof. Zafar Iqbal, currently on forced leave, from his position.
Meanwhile, victims of the alleged corruption during the era of Zafar Iqbal as the VC and Zahir Shah Marwat as the registrar of the university stagged a protest at the gate of Gomal University. The protestors gathered there and presented to media the documents which they think are proof of corruption during recruitment process. They thanked Chief Minister Suhail Afridi for launching inquiry into reports of smuggling on campus, use of fire arms, sale and purchase of jobs and degrees in the university. They said that they hope that justice will be done to them.

According to sources, the decision to remove Dr. Muhammad Ijaz Khan was made in light of the preliminary findings of an inquiry committee, which reportedly identified alleged irregularities in the affiliation of private colleges and violations of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) guidelines. The report alleges that a coordinated network was involved in granting affiliations to certain private colleges in violation of the prescribed rules and procedures.
Sources further stated that the inquiry committee has recommended a comprehensive investigation based on the initial evidence. They said that members of the selection board will also be interrogated in view of rampant complains of irregularities in recruitment process. They also claimed that investigators have encountered difficulties in accessing relevant official records.
Well-informed sources say that pressure is being exerted on the inquiry committee to soften its findings. They further claimed that some individuals under scrutiny had removed or concealed important official records outside the university campus in an attempt to obstruct the investigation. However, these allegations have not yet been independently verified or officially confirmed.
According to sources, Acting Vice Chancellor Dr. Naimatullah Babar is committed to ensuring transparency and accountability and intends to take the inquiry to its logical conclusion. University circles are viewing the action as a significant step toward addressing alleged administrative irregularities within the institution.
Despite repeated attempts to seek comments, no official response has yet been received from the individuals named in connection with the allegations. Their position will be incorporated into the report as soon as it becomes available.
Earlier on Monday, Zafar Iqbal moved Peshawar High Court against the notification of formation of high powered inquiry team and his removal from university so that inquiry could take place. The court rubbished his plea for a stay against the provincial government’s notification and initiated proceedings into the case.
Minute Mirror has been covering this mega corruption scam exclusively and multiple times the KP government took actions after reports of corruption. This newspaper reported all the inquiries taken in corruption charges over the last year.
