Anne Hathaway enters The Odyssey Oscar race

Anne Hathaway is expected to compete in the supporting actress category for her role as Penelope in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.

Hathaway portrays Penelope, the wife of Odysseus, played by Matt Damon. The movie is based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic and follows Odysseus as he struggles to return home after the Trojan War.

The film features a major ensemble cast. Damon stars alongside Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson and Samantha Morton.

Morton, who plays Circe, is also expected to be included in Universal’s supporting actress campaign. This could put two actresses from the same film in contention for the category.

Hathaway’s placement has attracted attention because she has already won an Academy Award for supporting actress. She received the Oscar for her performance as Fantine in the 2012 musical drama Les Misérables.
