CTD traces network behind Kohat Police Lines mosque suicide attack

A joint team of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has traced the network allegedly involved in the suicide attack on a mosque inside the Kohat Police Lines during Friday prayers, investigative officials said.

According to the investigators, two militant organisations allegedly worked together to plan the attack on the police facility. The investigation has also revealed that the attackers were seeking to free their associates from the CTD compound.

Officials said the suspects had stayed in Kohat for several days before carrying out the attack. Investigators have obtained data and other details concerning the vehicle used by the suicide bomber.

The authorities are continuing to examine the vehicle and other evidence recovered during the investigation to determine the movements and connections of the attackers.

Investigators have also recovered unexploded explosive material believed to have been used in the attack. The evidence is being examined as part of efforts to identify other members of the network and establish how the attack was planned and executed.

The attack took place last Friday at a mosque inside the Kohat Police Lines while worshippers were attending Friday prayers. At least 23 people, including police personnel, were killed in the suicide bombing, while more than 100 others were injured.

Security and investigative agencies launched a joint investigation following the attack. Officials are now working to identify the wider network allegedly involved in planning, facilitating and carrying out the bombing.

The latest findings are expected to help investigators determine the role of the two organisations, trace the individuals who provided logistical support and identify any other suspects connected with the attack.
