Dar issues stern warning, urges Taliban to end terrorism

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has expressed serious concern over the situation in Afghanistan and urged the Taliban government to ensure the complete elimination of terrorism from Afghan soil.

Addressing a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Afghanistan, Dar said Pakistan remained deeply concerned about the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan.

He said a terrorist attack in Kohat last week claimed the lives of 24 people. He stressed that Afghanistan’s territory must not be allowed to be used for terrorist attacks against neighbouring countries.

The foreign minister urged the Taliban authorities to take effective measures to prevent terrorist groups from operating from Afghan soil. He said Pakistan expected the Afghan government to fulfil its responsibility in ensuring that its territory was not used to threaten regional peace and security.

Dar also highlighted concerns over the growing challenges linked to drugs, illegal weapons and human trafficking in Afghanistan. He stressed the need for stronger efforts to prevent these activities and address their impact on Afghanistan and neighbouring countries.

The deputy prime minister also expressed deep concern over restrictions on the education of Afghan girls and employment opportunities for women. He called for greater attention to the rights and future of Afghan women and girls.

Dar further said the international community must share responsibility for the challenges arising from the return of Afghan refugees. He stressed that the burden of refugee repatriation should not be left solely to the countries directly affected by the process.

He said continued international engagement was necessary to address Afghanistan’s security, humanitarian and economic challenges. Dar also emphasised the importance of collective efforts to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan and the wider region.
