Eight militants killed, six security personnel martyred in Hangu clash

HANGU: Eight militants were killed while six security personnel, including two officers, were martyred during an exchange of fire between security forces and militants in Hangu, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

According to an ISPR statement, security forces engaged militants affiliated with the banned militant group in a fierce gun battle in Hangu. The exchange of fire resulted in the deaths of eight militants.

The military’s media wing said six security personnel also lost their lives during the intense firefight. The martyrs included two officers and four soldiers.

The ISPR identified the two officers as 23-year-old Captain Abu Zarar Farooq and 22-year-old Lieutenant Shiraz Babar. Captain Abu Zarar Farooq belonged to Gujranwala, while Lieutenant Shiraz Babar was from Chakwal.

According to the ISPR, both officers led their troops from the front during the operation and embraced martyrdom while confronting the militants.

The military said the sacrifices of the personnel reflected their commitment to protecting the country and eliminating militant threats.

Following the clash, a sanitisation operation is underway in the area to locate and eliminate any other militants who may still be present.

The ISPR said security forces remain engaged in efforts to clear the area and prevent further militant activity. Further details about the operation were not immediately provided.
