FPCCI seeks one-month extension for tax returns

The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has called for a one-month extension in the deadline for filing income tax returns, citing technical problems and difficulties faced by taxpayers.

FPCCI Senior Vice President Saqib Rafiq Magsi said the deadline should be extended by one month to provide taxpayers with sufficient time to complete the filing process.

He said the slow performance of the IRIS tax portal and various technical glitches had created difficulties for taxpayers seeking to submit their income tax returns before the existing deadline.

Magsi added that taxpayers also needed additional time to complete the wealth reconciliation process, which is an important part of tax return filing for many individuals and businesses.

According to him, extending the deadline would help increase the number of active tax filers and improve overall tax compliance.

He urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial to take immediate notice of the problems being faced by taxpayers.

Magsi said allowing additional time instead of rushing taxpayers would facilitate a smoother filing process and contribute to better compliance with tax regulations.

The FPCCI official stressed that the authorities should consider the technical and practical difficulties faced by taxpayers before enforcing the existing deadline.
