Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has accused the United States and Israel of targeting Iran while using the airspace of some Muslim countries, claiming that Tehran responded by targeting U.S. military bases from which operations against Iran were launched.

In an interview with an Arab television channel, Pezeshkian alleged that U.S. strategy in the region was aimed at creating divisions among Muslim countries in order to increase American influence over their resources.

Pezeshkian also linked the current dispute over the Strait of Hormuz to what he described as U.S. actions in the region. He said that if Iran’s access routes were restricted, closing the strategic waterway would be viewed by Tehran as a natural response.

At the same time, the Iranian president said the long-term solution to the dispute over the Strait of Hormuz should come through negotiations rather than military force. Recent reporting has similarly quoted Pezeshkian as supporting a diplomatic approach to reopening the waterway.

He also called on Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthis to resolve their differences through dialogue, saying Iran was prepared to help facilitate reconciliation between the two sides.

On negotiations with Washington, Pezeshkian said previous U.S. military actions and sanctions had damaged trust between the two countries. He said Pakistan and Qatar were acting as intermediaries by facilitating communication and exchanging messages between Tehran and Washington.

Pezeshkian stressed that lasting peace and security in the Middle East should be achieved through cooperation among regional countries rather than dependence on an outside power.

He maintained that the region does not need an external power or overseer and said Iran would continue to uphold its position despite U.S. sanctions and pressure from Israel.
