Iran praises Pakistan’s regional peace efforts during Naqvi meeting

Iran has appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region as Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held talks with his Iranian counterpart Eskandar Momeni in Tehran.

Naqvi travelled to the Iranian capital on Monday and met Momeni to discuss bilateral relations and the latest regional developments. The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between the two countries and reviewing the security situation in the region.

According to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry, Momeni expressed appreciation for the efforts of Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership to support regional peace. He specifically acknowledged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for their efforts to advance stability.

Momeni said Iran valued Pakistan’s continued efforts to promote peace in the region. He also described Naqvi’s visit as beneficial and expressed the hope that cooperation between the two neighbouring countries would continue to grow.

The two ministers also reviewed cooperation between their respective interior ministries. They discussed progress in different areas and considered ways to further strengthen coordination between the two sides.

Naqvi said relations between Pakistan and Iran would become stronger in the coming days. He stressed the importance of continued engagement between the neighbouring countries, particularly amid the changing regional situation.

Naqvi was received by Momeni upon his arrival in Tehran. The visit comes as Pakistan continues its diplomatic engagement on regional tensions involving Iran and the United States.

Pakistan has previously played a role in facilitating diplomatic contacts between the two sides. The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding signed in July was aimed at supporting a process to reduce tensions and move towards a settlement of the conflict.

However, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei had earlier said that Naqvi’s visit would primarily focus on Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations. He said there was no plan for the minister to deliver any specific message related to mediation.

The latest meeting follows Momeni’s official visit to Pakistan in July. During that visit, the two ministers discussed bilateral ties, trade, regional developments and opportunities for cooperation.
