Iran shares negotiation terms with US mediators

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei said consultations with Qatari and Pakistani mediators were continuing, adding that Tehran had conveyed its conditions for negotiations with the United States to the mediators.

In an interview with Arab media, Rezaei said it would be in Washington’s interest to accept Iran’s conditions if it wanted to find a way out of the war that he said had been provoked by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Rezaei said Iran was prepared for a decisive confrontation and warned that threats from US President Donald Trump would not produce any results.

He said Iran had realised the need to reconsider its strategy toward the United States after Washington withdrew, without giving a reason, from a memorandum of understanding that had been scheduled to be signed in Islamabad.

According to Rezaei, US assessments and calculations regarding Iran had proved wrong. He claimed that Iran was now familiar with the weaknesses of the US military and was better prepared than before to confront American air strikes.

Rezaei also said Iran had recently tested an anti-ship missile near a US aircraft carrier. He stressed that Tehran was serious about defending itself and warned that any attack on Iran would lead to stronger Iranian strikes against US bases and American interests across the region.

Meanwhile, Rezaei said Iran wanted an end to the conflict between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi movement. He added that it appeared the Houthis also wanted to reach an agreement with Saudi Arabia.

The comments come amid continued diplomatic efforts involving regional mediators as tensions between Iran and the United States remain high. Tehran has maintained that any negotiations would depend on its stated conditions, while regional actors have continued efforts to prevent further escalation.
