Authorities have started taking containers into custody in Islamabad as part of measures to prevent a planned protest in the federal capital.
Container owners claimed that Islamabad Police had also seized containers carrying medicines. They said the vehicles had brought pharmaceutical supplies to Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
According to the owners, the medicines could be damaged because of the hot weather if the containers remain in police custody for an extended period.
The owners further alleged that police officials took the keys and documents of the containers. They said driving licences, bilty receipts and other relevant documents were also taken into custody.
The development raised concerns among transporters about possible delays in the delivery of medicines to hospitals, pharmacies and other healthcare facilities in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Following the reports, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi contacted the Islamabad Inspector General of Police and the Islamabad Chief Commissioner.
Naqvi subsequently directed the authorities to immediately release the containers carrying medicines that had been taken into custody.

He directed the relevant police and administrative authorities to ensure that the instructions were implemented in letter and spirit.
