A 27-year-old man died after suffering a fatal electric shock while working inside a shop in the Orangi Town area of Karachi on Sunday, rescue officials confirmed.
According to details provided by the Chhipa Welfare Association, the incident took place in Gulshan-e-Bahar near Aqsa Masjid, where the victim, identified as Asghar, son of Sajid Baloch, was engaged in routine work inside a local shop. During work, he suddenly came into contact with an exposed or faulty electrical connection, resulting in a severe electric shock.
Eyewitnesses and rescue sources said the young man immediately fell unconscious after receiving the shock. People present in the area quickly informed emergency services, and a Chhipa ambulance reached the site shortly afterward.
Rescue teams provided first aid and rushed the victim to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital in critical condition. However, despite medical efforts, doctors were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Officials confirmed that the deceased was 27 years old and a resident of the same locality. His sudden death has caused grief among family members and residents of the area.
At the time of reporting, the exact cause of the electric shock was not fully determined. Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the incident was caused by faulty wiring, unsafe equipment, or negligence in electrical maintenance inside the shop.
Local sources said that such incidents often occur in densely populated commercial areas where electrical systems are poorly maintained or overloaded. Safety experts have repeatedly warned about the risks of exposed wiring and lack of proper insulation in shops and small businesses.
Police and relevant authorities are expected to investigate the incident further to determine responsibility and assess whether safety regulations were followed. No additional injuries were reported in the incident.
After completion of legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family for burial. The incident has once again highlighted the importance of electrical safety measures in workplaces to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
