A suspected robber was killed and two police officers were injured during an alleged encounter in Karachi’s Shah Latif Town area on Sunday morning, police said. Other suspects managed to escape under the cover of fire, officials added.
According to police sources, the exchange of fire took place near Green Park City on the National Highway, within the jurisdiction of Shah Latif Police Station. Police said they were conducting a routine operation when armed suspects opened fire, triggering a gunfight.
During the encounter, a 40-year-old suspect was killed on the spot. Police officials confirmed that two constables were injured in the exchange of fire. The injured officers were identified as Constable Ghulam Abbas (40), son of Ghulam Rasool, and Constable Zubair Ahmed (38), son of Mukhtiar Ahmed.
Rescue teams from Chhipa shifted both the injured officers and the deceased suspect to Jinnah Hospital Karachi for legal and medical formalities. Later, the injured officers were transferred to a private hospital on Stadium Road for further treatment after receiving initial medical care.
Police said the deceased suspect was identified as Qaiser Khan, son of Asif Khan, based on a national identity card recovered from him. However, officials added that biometric verification is being conducted to confirm his identity. Authorities also noted that the suspect’s listed address was in Landhi’s New Muzaffarabad Colony, District Malir, while his ancestral roots reportedly trace back to Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
SHO Shah Latif, Inspector Mumtaz Marwat, stated that the suspect was found in possession of a pistol with ammunition, a mobile phone, cash, and a white Toyota Corolla Altis. Police said the vehicle appears to be cleared in the Criminal Record System, and further investigation is underway to verify its ownership and usage.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect’s accomplices managed to flee the scene during the exchange of fire. A search operation has been launched to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Police officials have initiated a detailed investigation into the encounter, while forensic teams are also examining evidence collected from the site. Law enforcement agencies have reiterated their commitment to curbing street crime and ensuring public safety across Karachi.
