Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has contacted PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. Both leaders agreed on key political developments in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The discussion took place over a phone call. Ishaq Dar congratulated Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on his party’s performance in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections.
During the conversation, both leaders reached an understanding. They agreed that the single largest party in Gilgit-Baltistan will form the government.
They also agreed that leaders of both parties will sit together. The meeting will focus on political matters and future cooperation regarding the region’s affairs.
Earlier, the Prime Minister also congratulated President Asif Ali Zardari on the election results. He reportedly praised Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, saying that the young PPP leader ran a better election campaign. President Zardari reportedly responded with a smile, saying, “After all, he is my son.”
According to unofficial and preliminary results, the political situation in Gilgit-Baltistan is still evolving. A total of 24 seats are required to form a government in the 24-member assembly.
The Pakistan Peoples Party is currently leading with 10 seats. Independent candidates have secured 7 seats. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has won 6 seats so far.
No party has yet reached the required majority. The final outcome will determine which party or coalition will form the next government in Gilgit-Baltistan.
