Lindsay Lohan reunites with Mean Girls director for new Netflix film

Lindsay Lohan is set to reunite with filmmaker Mark Waters for a new Netflix movie, bringing the pair back together more than two decades after their successful collaborations.

The 40-year-old actress will star alongside Henry Golding in Return to You, a film set in the late 2000s. Lohan will also take on a producer role in the upcoming project.

The story is set in 2008 and follows a lonely lawyer whose life takes an unexpected turn after she receives a DVD from a dying woman. The disc is addressed to the woman’s husband.

Using clues found on the recording, the lawyer begins a search to locate the woman’s husband. The mystery-driven story will explore where that journey takes her.

The project marks another collaboration between Lohan and Waters. The two first worked together on Freaky Friday in 2003 before teaming up again for the 2004 hit Mean Girls.

Waters later directed several Netflix productions, including He’s All That, Mother of the Bride and La Dolce Villa.

Lohan has also developed a strong association with Netflix in recent years. She appeared in films including Falling for Christmas, Irish Wish and Our Little Secret.

Waters previously revealed that he was not involved in the Freaky Friday sequel Freakier Friday. He said in 2025 that he had not been invited to work on the follow-up.

Despite that, Waters expressed interest in collaborating with Lohan again. The pair have now found an opportunity to return to the screen together with Return to You.
