KARACHI: MQM Pakistan leader Farooq Sattar said the party has tied its support for the federal budget to two key conditions. He made the statement during a media interaction.
He said MQM will only vote for the budget if it receives satisfactory answers regarding the removal of its governor. He also demanded clarity on Article 140-A.
Farooq Sattar said the party wants to know why its governor was removed. He said MQM expects a clear explanation from the authorities.
He added that Article 140-A is an important constitutional provision related to public interest. He said the government must respond to MQM’s concerns regarding its implementation.
He further said MQM should be given back its governorship. He questioned the reasons behind removing their representative from the position.
Referring to political comparisons, he said that just as former prime minister Nawaz Sharif asked why he was removed, MQM is also asking why its governor was taken away.
Farooq Sattar said the MQM governor had worked in the IT sector. He claimed that the initiative helped around 50,000 students become self-reliant, with many now earning around $1,500 per month.
When asked about internal differences within MQM, he said party decisions would determine who supports or opposes the budget.
He added that leadership matters would be resolved within the party. He said the final decision rests with Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.
