Mysterious lights over Tehran

Mysterious lights seen in the night sky over Tehran, Iran have sparked a debate on social media.

Videos shared online show several bright lights moving across the dark sky. Some users believe they could be drones, while others suggest they may be a group of drones an aircraft or even a kite fitted with LED lights.

Videos spread on social media

The videos were widely shared on X on September 20. Some accounts claimed they were recorded in Tehran a day earlier while one user identified the location as the Azadegan area.

However the location of the videos has not been independently confirmed.

There is also no clear evidence showing exactly what the lights were, or how high large or fast they were moving.

Link to a 1976 Mystery?

The videos have appeared at a notable time as nearly 50 years have passed since a famous unexplained aerial incident over Tehran.

On September 19, 1976 reports emerged of a bright unidentified object in the sky over Tehran. Iranian F-4 fighter jets were reportedly sent to investigate the sighting.

However there is no evidence linking the current videos to the 1976 incident.

For now without reliable location data the original source of the videos or an official explanation the identity of the mysterious lights remains unknown.
