Prince Harry and Charles Spencer have been drawn into fresh speculation over tensions within the British royal family, with claims that the two have joined forces against King Charles.
Royal commentator Tom Bower alleged that Spencer has developed an alliance with Harry and Meghan Markle with the aim of damaging the reputation of the monarchy. His comments came amid renewed attention on Spencer’s recent remarks about the royal family and the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death.
Speaking to BBC presenter Laura Kuenssberg on Friday, Charles Spencer recalled a heated conversation he said he had with King Charles following Diana’s death.
According to Spencer, the then-Prince Charles became extremely angry during the conversation and criticised his family’s sense of duty. Spencer said the King spoke at length and expressed strong dissatisfaction with the family’s conduct.
Spencer recalled being shocked by the remarks and said he eventually told Charles that he could not believe what he had heard before ending the call.
His comments have brought renewed focus to longstanding tensions surrounding Diana’s death and the relationship between her family and the royal household.
Meanwhile, Bower’s allegations about an alleged alliance between Spencer and Harry remain his own interpretation. Neither Prince Harry nor Charles Spencer has publicly confirmed that they are working together to undermine the monarchy.
