Punjab launches digital overhaul to modernise Horticulture services

LAHORE: The Punjab Horticulture Authority (PHA) is set to introduce a comprehensive digital portal aimed at modernising horticulture management and improving oversight of agencies operating across the province, Director General Raja Mansoor Ahmad announced on Thursday.

The upcoming platform will bring together a wide range of administrative and operational functions under one system, enabling more efficient management of parks, green belts, workforce records, and field operations. Real-time monitoring of official vehicles and digital mapping of green spaces will also be integrated into the portal.

According to the PHA chief, the system will maintain an updated digital record of machinery and equipment used by district agencies, including tractors, water bowsers, and other horticultural assets. The move is expected to enhance asset management, maintenance scheduling, and operational efficiency.

A major feature of the initiative is a public helpline that will allow residents to submit complaints, suggestions, and feedback regarding parks and green areas. The portal will automatically direct these reports to the relevant authorities, helping ensure faster responses and improved service delivery.

The digital platform will also support several key PHA programmes, including the Adopt-a-Park initiative, nursery operations, plant inventory management, and an electronic attendance system designed to strengthen accountability and monitoring.

As part of its expansion strategy, the authority has extended the Adopt-a-Park programme beyond Lahore to newly incorporated districts such as Jhang, Rahim Yar Khan, Khushab, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Okara, Gujrat, Jhelum, Murree, Khanewal, and Muzaffargarh.

Officials said field teams will continuously update information on the portal to ensure accurate and timely data availability. The project is part of the Punjab government’s broader drive to promote transparency, efficiency, and technology-based governance.

Raja Mansoor Ahmad said the centralised dashboard would improve coordination between provincial and district-level agencies, reduce delays, and raise the overall quality of horticulture services throughout Punjab.

Alongside the digital transformation, the PHA is continuing beautification efforts across the province through large-scale flower plantation campaigns and maintenance projects. New parks are being developed in cities such as Sargodha, Multan, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi, while existing recreational facilities are undergoing renovation and upgrades.

The authority is also introducing decorative installations, including ornamental displays and illuminated structures, to enhance the visual appeal of urban centres and create more attractive public spaces for residents.
