His family confirmed the news in an emotional Facebook post on Thursday, August 27. According to the family, Monroe lost his life after a difficult battle with meningitis.
His mother, Joyce Patton, shared the heartbreaking update herself. She thanked everyone in her online community, both longtime friends and new supporters, for their prayers throughout her son’s illness. She then revealed that God had called him home, asking others to continue praying for the family, especially for Samuel’s three children.
Monroe’s health troubles began after he contracted a meningitis infection while working in Las Vegas. In the months that followed, his condition steadily worsened, partly because the illness had initially been misdiagnosed.
By April, the infection had spread to his brain and spine, triggering serious complications. Doctors treated him for MRSA pneumonia and kidney issues as his condition continued to decline. Over time, he endured seizures, dangerous brain swelling, and underwent multiple brain surgeries. He also required dialysis as his body struggled to cope with the illness.
Earlier this month, his condition took a severe turn. The Set It Off actor was placed on life support and put into a medically induced coma as doctors fought to stabilise him.
