Punjab Police Constable Fazal Ahmad was martyred in the line of duty after sustaining a gunshot wound during a police operation

LAHORE/SARGODHA, September 24, 2026: Punjab Police Constable Fazal Ahmad was martyred in the line of duty after sustaining a gunshot wound during a police operation to arrest a wanted suspect in Sargodha, police said on Thursday.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, a police team conducted a raid within the jurisdiction of Kot Momin Police Station to apprehend a wanted accused. During the operation, the suspect allegedly opened fire at the police party after seeing the personnel approaching.

A bullet fired by the accused struck Constable Fazal Ahmad in the chest, leaving him critically injured. The injured constable was immediately shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for medical treatment. However, despite receiving medical care, he succumbed to his injuries and was declared martyred.

The death of Constable Fazal Ahmad prompted an expression of grief and tribute from Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem. The IG paid homage to the constable’s sacrifice and acknowledged his service to the department.

IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said Punjab Police stood alongside the bereaved family during their difficult time. He assured the family that they would not be left alone and that all possible measures would be taken to ensure their welfare and well-being.

The funeral prayer of the martyred constable was later offered at Police Lines Sargodha. The funeral was attended by a large number of police officers and personnel, senior officials from law enforcement agencies, members of the Punjab Assembly, government representatives and members of civil society.

A specially turned-out contingent of Punjab Police presented a guard of honour to the mortal remains of Constable Fazal Ahmad. Special prayers were also offered for the departed soul and for the elevation of the martyr’s ranks.

Following the funeral prayer, the mortal remains of the martyred constable were transported to his native village, Naseer Pur Kalan, where his burial arrangements were to be completed.

DPO Sargodha Tauqeer Muhammad Naeem also paid tribute to Constable Fazal Ahmad’s services and sacrifice. He met the bereaved family and expressed solidarity with them following the constable’s death.

The DPO praised the courage and commitment demonstrated by the martyred police official while performing his duty. He said the families of police martyrs were considered part of the police family and would continue to receive institutional support.

Tauqeer Muhammad Naeem said police personnel remain committed to carrying out their responsibilities despite the dangers associated with maintaining law and order. He added that the sacrifice of every police martyr strengthens the department’s determination to continue its mission of protecting citizens and combating crime.

Punjab Police also paid tribute to the sacrifices of its personnel who have lost their lives while serving the public. The department reiterated its commitment to providing all possible assistance, care and support to the families of its martyrs.

The incident once again highlighted the risks faced by police personnel during operations against wanted suspects and criminals. Constable Fazal Ahmad’s sacrifice was acknowledged by senior police officials and colleagues, who expressed solidarity with his family and paid tribute to his service.
