Saudi ambassador Al-Baqami arrives in Pakistan

Saudi Arabia’s newly appointed ambassador to Pakistan, Dr Rajeh bin Tami Al-Baqami, has arrived in Islamabad to begin his diplomatic assignment.

The Saudi Embassy in Islamabad announced the ambassador’s arrival on Saturday. He was received by Khushal Saeed, Assistant Director of the Protocol Department at Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, along with members of the Saudi diplomatic mission.

Al-Baqami was appointed Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Pakistan in July, replacing Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki. He was among several newly appointed Saudi envoys who took the oath of office before Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

The new envoy is a retired Saudi major general. After retiring from the armed forces, he joined the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was appointed ambassador. He also holds a doctorate in Human Resource Management from Brunel University London.

His arrival comes as Pakistan and Saudi Arabia continue to expand cooperation in several areas, including defence, investment and regional security. The two countries have maintained close diplomatic and economic ties for decades.

Saudi Arabia has also pledged major investments in Pakistan under its Vision 2030 programme. Riyadh has provided financial support to Islamabad at various points and has also supplied oil to Pakistan under deferred payment arrangements.

The relationship has gained further strategic importance amid changing regional security dynamics. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have recently strengthened defence cooperation, while both countries have also maintained close consultations on regional developments.
