Why  are phones rectangular?

Foldable and flip phones are becoming more common with several companies now offering different designs.  However rectangular smartphones still dominate the market.

Whether you use an iPhone or an Android phone most smartphones have a similar basic shape a slim rectangle with rounded corners. But why has this design remained so popular?
