Dubai police foil armed robbery at money exchange in just 10 minutes

Dubai Police successfully foiled an armed robbery at a money exchange office in the Deira district, arresting the suspects and recovering the stolen cash within just 10 minutes of the crime being reported.

According to Dubai Police, the robbery took place at a currency exchange outlet in Deira, one of the city’s busiest commercial areas. The suspects, who were armed and wearing masks, allegedly stormed the premises, assaulted members of the staff, and tied them up before escaping with approximately 10 million UAE dirhams in cash.

Authorities said the robbery was carefully planned, with the suspects attempting to flee immediately after collecting the money. However, the criminals’ escape was cut short due to the swift response of Dubai Police.

Police officials explained that one of the employees at the money exchange office managed to secretly use a mobile phone to alert emergency services despite being threatened by the robbers. The emergency call triggered an immediate response from law enforcement, allowing officers to begin tracking the suspects within minutes.

As soon as the alert was received, Dubai Police launched a large-scale security operation across the Deira area. Roadblocks were established at key exit points to prevent the suspects from leaving the district, while patrol units were rapidly deployed to search nearby streets and highways.

In addition to the ground operation, police activated aerial surveillance using a police helicopter to monitor the suspects’ movements from the air. The coordinated effort between officers on the ground and the helicopter crew enabled authorities to quickly identify the escape route taken by the robbers.

Officials said the helicopter tracked two of the fleeing suspects, guiding police units to their location. Both individuals were arrested shortly afterward without allowing them enough time to escape or dispose of the stolen money.

Dubai Police confirmed that the two arrested suspects are nationals of an African country. During the operation, officers recovered the stolen 10 million dirha, ensuring that the money was returned before it could be transferred or hidden.

Authorities praised the rapid coordination between emergency dispatchers, patrol officers, and the police aviation unit, describing the operation as an example of Dubai Police’s ability to respond quickly to serious crimes. Officials noted that the successful outcome was made possible by advanced surveillance systems, efficient communication, and the immediate actions of the employee who managed to contact the police.

The incident also highlights the importance of modern security measures and emergency response protocols in protecting financial institutions. Money exchange centers routinely handle large sums of cash, making them potential targets for organized criminal groups. In this case, however, the suspects were unable to benefit from the robbery because of the swift intervention by law enforcement.
