Gujrat anti-corruption raid: FIR clarifies civil judge was supervisor, not arrested

GUJRAT: A clarification issued by the District Information Officer, Gujrat, has disputed reports circulating on social media that a Civil Judge was arrested during an Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) raid in Gujrat on September 2, 2026.

According to the clarification and FIR No. 23/26 registered by ACE Gujrat on September 2, the judicial officer identified as Civil Judge Sher Hassan Pervaiz was deputed by the District and Sessions Judge Gujrat to supervise the raid proceedings initiated following a complaint alleging bribery.

The FIR states that the person arrested during the operation was Yousaf Gul, son of Rahan Gul, an Ahlmad (court clerk) at the Civil Court Gujrat. He was allegedly apprehended while receiving marked currency during the raid and was subsequently sent to jail following the proceedings.

The clarification stressed that the FIR identifies Yousaf Gul as the arrested person and describes his status as an Ahlmad of the Civil Court. It therefore disputes social media reports portraying Civil Judge Sher Hassan Pervaiz as the individual taken into custody.

Officials said the distinction between supervising an anti-corruption raid and being arrested during the operation is significant. According to the official account, the Civil Judge’s role was confined to supervising the proceedings, while the arrest was of the court clerk named in the FIR.

The clarification further stated that judicial officers may be deputed under the relevant rules and procedures to supervise such raids. Consequently, officials cautioned against interpreting the presence of a judicial officer at an anti-corruption operation as evidence of arrest or criminal involvement.

The District Information Officer urged media outlets and social media users to rely on official records and verified information when reporting sensitive incidents, particularly cases involving judicial officers and government institutions.

Officials said reliance on unverified reports can create unnecessary confusion and misconceptions among the public, stressing that the contents of the FIR and information issued by the concerned authorities should form the basis of reporting on the Gujrat incident.
