IGP KP visits martyr SP Akbar Shinwari’s family, vows justice for fallen officers

According to a police press release shared with Minute Mirror, the IGP offered Fateha for the departed soul and met members of the bereaved family.

MARDAN: Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Zulfiqar Hameed on Monday visited the family of martyred SP Traffic Akbar Khan Shinwari at his residence in Lund Khwar, Mardan, following his death in the suicide attack at the Kohat Police Lines Mosque.

According to a police press release shared with Minute Mirror, the IGP offered Fateha for the departed soul and met members of the bereaved family. He conveyed his condolences and assured them of the department’s full support.

“ Our martyrs are our pride and their families are our family — we will never leave them alone,” the IGP said, assuring the family that the sacrifices of police personnel would not be forgotten.

He further vowed that the blood of the fallen officers would not go in vain and said the police would continue its efforts against those responsible for attacks on law-enforcement personnel and other targets.

The IGP paid tribute to SP Akbar Khan Shinwari, saying the officer embraced martyrdom while performing his duty and had made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the people. He said the sacrifices of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police remain a source of pride for the department and the nation.

Zulfiqar Hameed also prayed for patience for the bereaved family and for the elevation of the martyr’s ranks in the hereafter. He directed the relevant officers to ensure that the family received the Shuhada package and other entitled assistance without unnecessary delay.

SP Traffic Akbar Khan Shinwari was among the police personnel killed in the suicide attack inside the Kohat Police Lines Mosque during Zuhr prayers. The attack targeted a highly secured police facility and has renewed concerns over security arrangements at sensitive installations.

The latest incident comes against the backdrop of a long history of attacks on police personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Peshawar Police Lines mosque attack in January 2023, in which more than 100 police personnel were killed, remains among the deadliest attacks on the province’s police force.

During his visit, the IGP also directed officers to maintain regular contact with the martyr’s family and ensure that their welfare remained a departmental priority. He reiterated that the police leadership would continue standing with the families of officers who lose their lives in the line of duty.
