LHC seeks full police inquiry report

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has sought a complete inquiry report from Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana in a contempt of court petition alleging harassment of a citizen and his family by police.

Chief Justice Aalia Neelum heard the petition and expressed serious concern over the police department’s failure to submit a complete report to the court. She directed the CCPO to provide the full inquiry report and also sought an explanation from the police officials responsible for submitting the incomplete report.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Neelum questioned the police authorities over their handling of the matter and asked what action they had taken against the officials who prepared and submitted an incomplete report.

The chief justice also criticised the conduct of the police officials, describing their approach as highly irresponsible. She questioned whether the police had adopted such an attitude after the court stopped summoning them in the case.

The court also heard the position of the provincial government. The Assistant Advocate General told the court that the police were not harassing or troubling the petitioner or his family members.

The petitioner, however, rejected the police’s position and told the court that despite an earlier judicial order, personnel from Achhra Police Station continued to harass and intimidate him and his family.

The petitioner requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana over the alleged non-compliance with the court’s directions.

After hearing the arguments, the chief justice directed the police chief to submit the complete inquiry report and explain the circumstances surrounding the incomplete report submitted earlier. The court will further examine the matter after receiving the required report and explanations from the concerned officials.
