Pakistan U19 players to receive central contracts for first time

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken a significant step towards supporting young talent by deciding to award central contracts to the national Under-19 players for the first time.

The decision was announced following a meeting between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi and the Pakistan U19 squad, where the young cricketers were praised for their impressive performances during their recent tour of England.

The Pakistan U19 side, led by captain Farhan Yousaf, secured a 3-1 victory in the four-match Youth ODI series against England. Farhan was among the standout performers, including a century in Pakistan’s 177-run win in the opening ODI.

Head coach Shahid Anwar welcomed the PCB’s decision, saying the first-ever central contracts would encourage young players to work harder and improve their performances. He added that recognising their efforts would help raise the confidence of both the players and coaching staff.

Farhan Yousaf also expressed his appreciation for the initiative. He said the Under-19 development camps held in Multan over the past two years had benefited the players and produced positive results.

The captain described his meeting with the PCB chairman as encouraging and said receiving central contracts at the Under-19 level for the first time was a source of happiness for the squad.

Other players also welcomed the decision, saying the contracts would provide greater confidence and motivation while allowing them to concentrate more closely on their cricket. Some players noted that the financial support could also help young cricketers contribute towards their families.

The PCB’s move marks a new form of formal support for emerging players as they continue their development toward senior international cricket. The board has also invested in youth preparation through development and skills camps, including a 31-player camp ahead of the England tour.
