Prince Harry has offered a glimpse into his family life, sharing details about a typical morning with his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, at their home in the Cotswolds.
The Duke of Sussex opened up about his morning routine during his annual appearance at the WellChild Awards in London on Monday. While attending the event, Harry reflected on the challenges parents can face when children are preparing to return to school after a break.
Harry revealed that Archie and Lilibet were experiencing what he described as “Monday morning blues” during breakfast. He explained that children can sometimes feel emotional or reluctant when they have to return to school after spending time at home.
According to Harry, the feelings can be similar to the “Sunday night blues” that many children experience when they know the weekend is coming to an end.
He also acknowledged that being away from home or preparing to leave for school can make those emotions stronger, particularly for children who have spent a long period with their family.
Instead of allowing the situation to become stressful, Harry said he decided to turn the conversation into an opportunity to talk to his children about his work.
He explained that he told Archie and Lilibet exactly what he would be doing that evening. To his surprise, the children became genuinely interested and began asking him questions about his plans.
Harry said conversations like these can help children develop greater awareness of the world around them. He added that both he and their mother, Meghan Markle, try to use their work and experiences as opportunities to teach their children about different issues.
For Harry, parenthood has also changed the way he views the work he does with children and families.
The Duke has been closely involved with WellChild for many years and has regularly spoken about the impact the charity has had on him. The organisation supports seriously ill children and their families across the UK.
Harry said becoming a parent changed his perspective and made him even more grateful for his children’s health.
He explained that before becoming a father, he cared deeply about meeting children and supporting young people, but parenthood brought a different level of understanding and appreciation.
Harry said that having children makes him realise how fortunate he is that Archie and Lilibet are healthy and do not have to face serious medical challenges.
The Duke also reflected on his experiences at WellChild events, where he meets children living with serious illnesses and spends time with their parents.
He admitted that after his own children had been out of school for around 11 weeks, it could be easy for parents to complain about the difficulties of everyday family life.
However, being in a room with families dealing with much more serious challenges quickly puts those everyday frustrations into perspective for him.
Harry acknowledged that every family’s circumstances are different, but said the children and their parents continue to inspire him.
He described the experience of meeting WellChild families as something that stays with him throughout the year.
The Duke’s comments offered a rare glimpse into his life as a father, showing how his experiences with Archie and Lilibet have influenced the way he approaches his charitable work.
While his public appearances often focus on his work and causes close to his heart, Harry’s latest comments highlighted the personal connection he feels with families facing serious health challenges.
His reflections also showed how parenthood has become an important part of the way he understands gratitude, responsibility and the everyday experiences of raising children.
