Six soldiers martyred in Hangu, funeral prayers held in Peshawar

Funeral prayers for six Pakistan Army personnel who embraced martyrdom during an exchange of fire with militants in Hangu were offered in Peshawar on Sunday, with senior civil and military officials, as well as the victims’ families, attending the ceremony.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Peshawar Corps Commander, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, the martyrs’ relatives, and senior civilian and military officials participated in the funeral prayers.

The six soldiers lost their lives during an armed confrontation with militants in Hangu. The deceased personnel included Captain Abu Zar Farooq, Lieutenant Shiraz Babar, Sepoy Shakeel Ahmed, Sepoy Hamza, Sepoy Muhammad Usman Aziz, and non-combatant Ghulam Sajjad.

Following the funeral ceremony, the military transported the bodies of the deceased to their respective hometowns. Their families and local communities will lay them to rest with full military honours, in recognition of their service and sacrifice for the country.

The incident highlights the continued security challenges faced by Pakistan’s armed forces in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where security personnel regularly conduct operations against militant groups.

The ISPR paid tribute to the fallen personnel, stating that their sacrifices in defence of the nation further strengthen the unwavering resolve of the country’s security forces.

The military’s media wing reaffirmed the significance of the soldiers’ contributions and their commitment to safeguarding Pakistan against security threats.
