US Consul General in Lahore Stetson Sanders praised the growing partnership between Pakistan and the United States during a ceremony at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), powered by Arizona State University, held to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Addressing students, faculty, parents, and guests, Sanders said NIT is helping shape Pakistan’s future through innovation, creativity, and quality education. He described the institution as an ideal venue to celebrate America’s historic milestone while highlighting the importance of strengthening educational cooperation between the two countries.

The consul general said the Pakistan-US relationship is built on shared opportunities, mutual respect, and long-term collaboration. Referring to the launch of the US Embassy’s America 250 celebrations in Islamabad, attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Sanders said a series of events would be held throughout the year to mark the anniversary and promote democratic values.

Quoting US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, he described Pakistan as a strategic partner with shared interests in security, prosperity, and regional cooperation.
Sanders also commended the collaboration between NIT and Arizona State University, saying it equips Pakistani students with globally competitive skills and prepares them for future careers.
During the ceremony, NIT announced the launch of the Future Innovators Scholarship (FIS) programme, under which 250 talented students will receive fully funded four-year scholarships over the next decade. Sanders welcomed the initiative, calling it a meaningful investment in Pakistan’s youth and a fitting tribute to America’s 250th Independence anniversary.
Earlier, NIT Chancellor Shahzeb Awan said the celebrations reflected the enduring friendship between Pakistan and the United States. He noted that while the US marks 250 years of independence, Pakistan is preparing to celebrate nearly 80 years of independence on August 14.
Awan said the Future Innovators Scholarship aims to expand access to higher education and nurture the next generation of innovators and leaders, reaffirming NIT’s commitment to academic excellence and international collaboration.
The event concluded with participants expressing optimism for stronger Pakistan-US cooperation in education, technology, innovation, and people-to-people exchanges.
