Islambabad: The Pakistan Young Doctors Association (YDA) on Monday day strongly condemned the acid attack on Dr Mah Noor Nasir while she was on duty at Civil Hospital Quetta, demanding a judicial inquiry, action against those responsible and immediate legislation to improve security in public hospitals.
Speaking at a press conference at the National Press Club, YDA leaders, including Vice Chairman Dr Yasar Achakzai, Balochistan Chairman Dr Bahar Shah and spokesperson Dr Faiz Khan Achakzai, termed the attack a serious security failure and called for the suspension of the Balochistan Health Secretary and the Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Quetta pending an independent investigation.
Dr Bahar Shah alleged that repeated warnings over security lapses, including non-functional CCTV cameras, had been ignored by the authorities.
YDA Women Wing leader Dr Shazia Khapalwak, addressing the conference from a women’s perspective, said the attack had heightened fear among female healthcare professionals and underscored the urgent need for a safe and secure working environment.
She urged the government to ensure the protection of women doctors so they could perform their duties without fear of violence or harassment.
The association warned that if justice was not served and meaningful security reforms were not introduced, protests would be expanded across the country.
