AI fake video: Why is Jannat Mirza concerned?

Pakistani TikTok star Jannat Mirza has raised concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence after a fabricated video featuring her went viral on social media.

The social media personality addressed the issue through her Instagram Stories and called for effective action against individuals who create or circulate such content without the consent of the people involved.

An AI-generated video showing Jannat Mirza alongside an unidentified man has been circulating across various social media platforms. The video features the song “Achhi Lagti Ho” in the background and has sparked concern over the misuse of digital technology.

Reacting to the video, Jannat made it clear that she did not find anything amusing about it. She said that using someone’s face to create such videos was extremely concerning and warned that the misuse of women’s images could put their dignity and reputation at risk.

“Today, my face has been used, but tomorrow, it could be any girl whose dignity and honour are put at risk,” she stated in her Instagram Stories.

Jannat further explained that, despite being an active social media user, she felt deeply uncomfortable after seeing the fabricated video. She urged people to consider the situation of women who do not maintain a social media presence and may remain unaware that their photographs are being misused.

The TikTok star acknowledged that artificial intelligence is a useful technology with many benefits. However, she said that using it to create misleading or inappropriate content involving real people crosses the line and should not be tolerated.

She called for action against those responsible for producing such material and stressed the need to prevent the unauthorised use of people’s faces in digitally manipulated videos.

Jannat Mirza rose to fame through TikTok and has become one of Pakistan’s most followed social media personalities. She has more than 25 million followers on TikTok and approximately six million followers on Instagram.

Hina Parvez Butt calls for legal action

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Punjab Assembly member Hina Parvez Butt also responded to the concerns raised by Jannat Mirza.

Speaking about AI-generated videos, Butt said that such content could have serious consequences for women. She emphasised the need to address the misuse of artificial intelligence and protect women from the harmful effects of fabricated digital material.

The lawmaker also outlined the procedure for reporting such incidents to the relevant authorities. She urged the concerned institutions to take effective legal action against individuals involved in creating and spreading unauthorised or harmful AI-generated videos.

The issue has renewed concerns over digital privacy, online harassment and the potential misuse of artificial intelligence to target women on social media.
