Attaullah Tarar warns PTI against disrupting peace in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has warned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that the government will not allow the party to enter Islamabad and disrupt law and order.

Speaking about the PTI’s planned protest and march towards the federal capital, Tarar said the government would take measures to prevent any activity that could threaten public peace.

“Whatever happens, PTI will not be allowed to come to Islamabad and disturb the law and order situation,” the minister said.

Tarar claimed that the government had not witnessed what he described as a consistently peaceful protest by PTI in recent years. He urged the party to reconsider its approach and warned that the government would respond to any attempt to create unrest.

His remarks come as PTI prepares for a planned protest in Islamabad on September 27, with the party demanding the release of its founder, Imran Khan. The government has repeatedly said that roads cannot be blocked and public movement cannot be disrupted.

The minister also spoke about the detention of Imran Khan’s sisters. He said they were arrested on the basis of information received by authorities that they could contribute to a deterioration in the law and order situation.

The arrests have taken place amid heightened security preparations ahead of the planned PTI protest. Authorities have increased security measures in and around the capital as the government prepares for possible demonstrations.

Tarar also questioned whom the government should engage with for negotiations within PTI. He specifically referred to party chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and claimed that he did not have sufficient authority within the party to make decisions.

The minister said some PTI figures had suggested negotiations with the government, but he questioned their ability to reach or implement an agreement.

He further claimed that the government could not rely on PTI’s commitments, arguing that previous political engagements had failed to produce lasting results.

The government has maintained that any protest must remain within the law and that public roads and essential services cannot be disrupted. Tarar has also previously said that no violent group would be allowed to reach Islamabad.
