PTI MNA Adil Bazai arrested in Islamabad

The detention of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders and lawmakers has continued ahead of the party’s planned September 27 protest, with MNA Adil Bazai becoming the latest parliamentarian taken into custody in Islamabad.

With Bazai’s arrest, the number of PTI lawmakers detained in the federal capital has risen to six. The detained parliamentarians include Senator Saifullah Niazi, MNAs Sanaullah Masti Khel, Mian Ahsan Jamal, Dawar Kundi, Ghaus Muhammad and Adil Bazai. Reports said the lawmakers were detained under Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) law.

The arrests come as PTI prepares for a planned march and protest in Islamabad on September 27. The party has said the mobilisation is aimed at demanding the release of its founder, Imran Khan, and calling for what it describes as the supremacy of the Constitution.

The latest detentions have further increased political tensions between PTI and the government. Authorities have been taking security and administrative measures ahead of the planned protest, while PTI has maintained that its political activities will remain peaceful.

PTI has condemned the detention of its parliamentarians and demanded their immediate release. The party has also called for detained lawmakers to be given access to their families and lawyers and has said that any legal allegations should be dealt with through the courts.

The crackdown has also extended to members of Imran Khan’s family. His sisters Aleema Khan, Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan have been detained under MPO orders in Lahore.

Aleema Khan was detained for 30 days before Noreen and Uzma were also taken into custody under similar orders. The three sisters have challenged their detention through petitions before the Lahore High Court. The court is scheduled to hear the matter on Tuesday.

The detention orders against Noreen and Uzma were issued by the Lahore deputy commissioner. The orders cited concerns relating to public safety and the maintenance of public order. The sisters have challenged the legality of the orders and argued that the authorities failed to follow the required legal procedure.
