CAIRO: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has reaffirmed Egypt’s position that relations with Israel cannot be fully restored until a just and lasting peace is achieved, including an end to the occupation of Palestinian territories and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
The remarks were made during the inauguration ceremony of Egypt’s State Strategic Command headquarters in Cairo, where Sisi outlined his government’s vision for regional peace and long-term stability.
According to media reports, the Egyptian president stressed that lasting peace in the Middle East cannot be achieved without addressing the Palestinian issue, which he described as the foundation for security and stability across the region.
“There will be no lasting peace, no real stability and no restoration of relations with Israel until a just peace is achieved,” Sisi said. He added that such a settlement must end the Israeli occupation, halt ongoing military aggression, restore the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and guarantee security for all sides.
Sisi argued that a fair political solution would create the conditions necessary for the people of the region to live in peace, stability and economic prosperity after years of conflict.
The Egyptian leader also renewed his call for a ceasefire in Gaza, saying an immediate halt to hostilities remains essential to easing the humanitarian situation and preventing further escalation. He emphasized the importance of diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and advancing negotiations.
Egypt has long positioned itself as a key regional mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, frequently facilitating ceasefire talks and humanitarian initiatives involving Gaza. Cairo has also played an active role in encouraging dialogue between regional and international stakeholders.
In addition to addressing the Palestinian issue, Sisi expressed support for the recently announced diplomatic framework aimed at reducing tensions between the Iran and the United States. He said regional stability depends on dialogue, diplomacy and efforts to prevent wider conflict.
His comments come at a time of continued international focus on the Middle East, where governments are seeking ways to revive political negotiations while addressing ongoing humanitarian and security challenges.
Sisi concluded by reiterating that sustainable peace requires respect for international law, protection of civilian rights and a political solution that guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He said only such an agreement can pave the way for lasting regional stability and improved relations among countries in the Middle East.
