Fazlur Rehman says JUI-F will support no-confidence motion if tabled

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said his party will support a no-confidence motion against the government if such a move is formally brought before Parliament.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad on Monday, Fazlur Rehman said the opposition currently did not have the position required to table a no-confidence motion. He added that no such move was being considered at the moment.

However, he made it clear that JUI-F would support the motion if it was presented. He also said the ruling coalition could lose its majority if the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) withdrew its support.

The JUI-F chief called for an in-camera session of Parliament to brief political leaders on the country’s current situation. He said the public was not being given sufficient information about important developments.

Fazlur Rehman questioned the usefulness of closed-door meetings involving parliamentary leaders when the broader situation was not being discussed openly in Parliament. He urged the government to bring major national issues before the House.

He claimed that the government’s authority was facing serious challenges in some parts of the country. He referred to law and order concerns in Sindh and Balochistan and said citizens were facing growing insecurity.

The JUI-F chief also disclosed that one of his party’s senators, Abdul Shakoor Khan, was stopped at an airport while he was preparing to travel to China. He said the senator was not allowed to proceed with his journey.

Fazlur Rehman further claimed that ministers in his province had also faced restrictions while travelling on roads. He referred to the deployment of containers in Islamabad whenever political parties announced protests.

He said the country was facing several economic pressures, including rising debt and inflation. According to him, ordinary citizens were struggling with worsening financial conditions while no effective solution was being provided.

Fazlur Rehman described the overall situation as highly serious and warned that continued political instability could further affect the country’s governance.

He also reiterated JUI-F’s position on provincial rights. He said the party had consistently demanded greater protection for provinces under the Constitution.
