Pakistan, Saudi Arabia reaffirm joint defence commitment

RIYADH: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have reaffirmed their commitment to working together against attacks targeting Makkah Al-Mukarramah and civilian and economic infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.

The commitment was reiterated in line with the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defence, under which the two countries have agreed to strengthen cooperation in response to security threats.

Saudi Defence Minister Khalid bin Salman said Riyadh welcomed the outcomes of a meeting of the chiefs of staff of countries participating in the Makkah Agreement.

According to the Saudi minister, the meeting focused on recent attacks targeting Makkah Al-Mukarramah and vital civilian and economic facilities across the Kingdom.

Khalid bin Salman also said he held a meeting with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

The discussions covered security challenges and continued coordination between the two countries under their joint defence framework.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have maintained close defence and security ties and have continued to strengthen cooperation on matters of mutual concern.
